Welcome to Rose Tutoring!

I’m Julia, the founder. I started tutoring in 2013 at a popular tutoring franchise, but quickly found that it didn’t allow for client-centered lessons. Kids came in crying. They dragged their feet and yawned their way through a pile of worksheets. Wanting to provide a more positive environment, I decided to strike out on my own.

In 2014, I founded Rose Tutoring & Educational Consulting with the hope of truly reaching students and improving not only their educational experiences, but their lives as well. I started as a math tutor, and expanded to cover test prep, study skills, and special education.

In 2019, I graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis with my bachelor’s in Psychological & Brain Sciences and Studio Art and returned to Kansas City to continue my work with my wonderful students. I see students who are struggling with the stress of school and the pressure to achieve; students who have difficulty balancing schoolwork, their job, and their social life; students with learning disabilities, chronic physical illness, and mental illness; and students who have experienced complex trauma. My first priority is to provide my students with a safe and comfortable learning environment. With this foundation in place, I bring in strategies from positive psychology to build motivation and promote student growth and wellness, and I use empirically-supported methods from cognitive and behavioral psychology to assist with acquisition, comprehension, and retrieval of new material.
